Investment

When is an investment a sound financial investment?

Today, a wide variety of investment structures shape the direction of our society. These structures are multifaceted and are divided into a wide range of areas that describe the respective purpose, object, or function of an investment. This allows us to specifically support an industry that contributes to improving the quality of life in our society.

Ultimately, however, growth is always the primary focus. Regardless of which investment is chosen, its goal has an active or passive impact on social life. This connection is important and highlights the far-reaching consequences of our actions.

Capital serves as the central means of payment for making investments. These investments are usually short-term in nature to minimize risk. However, this very mindset presents a problem: investments build upon one another continuously. Once an investment is completed, it opens up new opportunities, which in turn require further investments. This process resembles a vortex that draws us ever deeper into a socially dominant position, while other areas increasingly fall out of sight.

An overarching goal is barely recognizable anymore. This makes it more difficult to concentrate our resources precisely where they are needed in the long term.

The present shows that our society will face major challenges in the future. Changes in our environment are increasingly limiting our scope for action. This system will function to a certain extent. However, if we cross a certain threshold, no conventional means of payment will be able to solve the resulting problems.

Environmental factors already have a major impact on every aspect of our lives. Forecasts for the future do not suggest any fundamental improvement. It is therefore time to consider investment opportunities that are not based solely on capital.

The true wealth of our world is not expressed in money, but in the security of life. What good is all our money if we live on a planet with a quality of life like that on Mars?

It is not only we humans who are investing in a good and healthy future. Nature, too, is capable of adapting to change. However, it requires sufficient time to develop and the necessary leeway to adapt. Neither of these can be taken for granted today.

Without an intact natural world, however, life on this planet is inconceivable. We would thus have to finance our own existence on this planet in the future—an idea that seems unrealistic at first glance but is already beginning to take shape today.

What opportunities can we create if an investment takes into account not only society but also nature? More specifically: How can we lay the groundwork to ensure that our habitats can adapt to global change?
